Happy City, Funny Metro

February 28, 2012 By Helen

Shanghai, Happy City, Funny MetroWe’ve taken the metro several times. We’re impressed with how easy it is to use. We start out at People’s Square, a few blocks from the hotel, which has Lines 1, 2 and 8. Ticket machines have a touchscreen metro map, in Chinese and English, for you to indicate where you want to go and how many tickets. So far our tickets have all been 3RMB, around 50ยข. A couple of our trips required changing metro lines. The walk from one line to another has been lengthy, but huge colored arrows make it easy to get to the right place. On the train platform, signs indicate the direction of the train, which station is next, and what additional stations are beyond the next stop, very clear and helpful.
